Transcendence of the Self: a psychological perspective

Buddha started his life in a palace, surrounded by pleasure. The king, his father, intentionally created a world of beauty and Order. Despite this, he stepped out and saw the real world. He saw Suffering and misery and only then reached perfection. Humans build their lives into this Order, but in the insecurities, judgements, and the recesses of the mind, lies Truth.

It is often critical to face demons and errors to grow past them. These demons are the depression, the misery, the failures and the anxieties of life. Doing so in a sustained manner, rather than hoping to become enlightened tomorrow and take the world\’s entire burden, is the appropriate way. Why? – Man would be crushed by the weight of the world on his shoulder. Alternatively, developing negativity, hate and projecting it outward, akin to a tyrant, does not work. History has evidenced this countless times.

Take the minor issues in your life, as well as ones you have piled up and break them down. Identify the root and erase the causes of your pain. That\’s when you\’ve started to take responsibility for yourself. Avoid the trivialised identity games of the day and the misery of the modern age unless there is a need to retaliate in defence. To punish, one must be articulate, dangerous and sharp. Harry Potter was affected by Voldermort, which made him understand the true path to good.

To crucify oneself in silence and sacrifice may be noble, but is it practical? This is where one must reflect on their highest ideal in life and live by it, work toward it, decide and take decisions. This is when you act at the moment to become truly legendary. This is when you course-correct to reach your aim.

The highest game is the game of the Seeker, the game of Truth, the game within the game. This contains the whole world within it. As you observe one event, you can unpack your entire life and understand who you really are. This also means taking responsibility for things you do not need to take responsibility for. This is what Buddha meant by life is Suffering. To transcend suffering, the person has to live in Truth- both in the good, the beauty, the order of creating a company, as well as the Chaos- the ugly underside. Both sides will remain eternal.

Thus the capacity to transcend makes for the Hero. The first decision you must take is to accept this life, a Decision of Love. Then one can decide their ideals with Truth. This is the only way to leave the game. Play the game of life, truth, business, love and win. That is the Transcendence of the Self.
